Description
The 1994 genocide in Rwanda left 800,000 dead and many perpetrators among both officials and civilians. The country had to start from scratch, and 15 years later, the nation has made significant progress in reconciliation, in women's rights, and in economic development.
The World Vision Report has covered many of these positive developments, but recently Rwanda has been in the headlines with some concerning news in the months leading up to August's elections: journalists have been arrested, and political opposition leaders have been arrested or killed under mysterious circumstances.
Timothy Longman, the head of the African Studies Center at Boston University, discusses the current situation with host Peggy Wehmeyer.
